Are You Wearing the Right Size Bra?
A good fitting bra is critical for us big-busted girls. Our busts obviously have a key bearing on how we feel about ourselves and by having a bra that fits correctly, looks and FEELS great, it can make a huge difference to our lives.
It is believed that 70-80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra, and us big-boobed girls are probably the worst culprits (after all, we have a lot more to deal with than the rest!). It seems that the most common mistake is that we are wearing a band that is too BIG and a cup that is too small, for example, a 18C instead of a 16D (the good news about that is that most of us are smaller around the band than what we think). What's more, by wearing a correctly fitting 16D instead of an incorrectly fitting 18C, it will actually make you look slimmer!
The following guide is designed to help you find your TRUE size. The great news is you DON'T have to leave the comfort of your home to try this out - all you need is your favourite bra and a mirror (having a friend to assist would be a great help though).
It is often felt that using purely the traditional approach of tapes and measurements to determine your size can be largely inaccurate, especially for us girls with so much more.
To start with, the best advice I can give is that you clear your mind of the size you have always believed you were, and start afresh.
If possible, find one of your bras that fits you best…this will be a good start for you to gauge whether you have the correct size.
Understanding How Bra Sizing Works
Both of the bras in the following image are DD cup.

Why is it that the top bra is clearly so much bigger in the cup than the bottom when they are both the SAME cup size? Because the top bra has a much larger BAND SIZE. The cup is proportional to the band.

It is therefore important to understand that a woman with 8DD boobs has much smaller boobs than the woman with 18DD boobs. The size of your boobs is measured as a percentage of (or proportional to) your back size.
Bear this in mind - 10DD 12D 14C
THESE 3 BRAS CAN ALL ACCOMMODATE THE SAME SIZE BOOB!
If your cup fits you just right, but you need to change your back/band size, then the cup in the new bra needs to be altered too, for e.g. if you need to go down a back size from 14DD, then a 12DD will also be smaller in the cup, hence you will need to get a 12E i.e. A 14DD is equivalent in cup to a 12E, 12DD=10E, and this works in reverse when going up a band size (12DD = 14D, 10E = 12DD, etc).
